Interview Huub van Raamsdonk, Managing Director at Elinex "We see cyber attacks on energy grids as a possible danger"
What future trends do you expected to see in 2019?
I expect that the high willingness to invest will continue in 2019. There is nothing when the energy grid is flattened. Power plants work with old PLC’s (programmable logic controller), which are outdated and not renewed. The consequence is that there is a great risk on break ins. In addition, governments such as the Defense department, no longer allow Chinese products. We see this trend continue as well.
How do you prepare for this new developments?
Emergency power systems at data centers, but also in the data transfer industry (such as Ziggo), must be autonomous and not accessible from the outside.
What is the biggest challenge for your industry, looking at the future?
There is a huge increase in the demand from the market. It is a challenge to meet up to the expectations and needs of our customers with the limited number of people available. Before, the turnover was leading for the number of employees that were hired. Nowadays it’s wise and necessary to hire employees, and the turnover follows automatically.
What are you most eager about to share with the attendees at KickStart Europe and to learn from fellow speakers?
The trends in the market; I would like to know what the most recent market developments are. Elinex would like to share its expertise regarding management systems for UPS’s, of emergency power systems in general, and, seen that this conference is in January, one of our newest brands Centiel.
It is a Swiss brand and has the highest grade of mean time by failure (MTBF). MTBF is the predicted elapsed time between inherent failures of a mechanical or electronic system, during normal system operation. Centiel will develop a standard connection for lithium ion. This can be very useful for some countries.
Furthermore, we will share more about BACS and UNMS, (Battery Analyse and Care System/Universal Network Management System) and the newest products and systems of Huawei.
